 THE DESIGN

This print features Michelangelo's Giustiniani Christ, abandoned mid-carving (c.1515) when a dark marble vein emerged across the face. The sculptor saw it as an irredeemable flaw. Here, that vein is highlighted as the sculpture's most important attribute. Christ's wounds remained visible after the Resurrection therefore the scars mark His sacrifice, not His defeat.

THE INSCRIPTION

SIS LUX IN TENEBRIS IN VULNERIBUS NEXUS FIDEI
"Be light in the darkness, within the wounds: the bond of faith."

MICHELANGELUS ⋅ Ps 188:22
Psalm 118:22 - "The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone." The verse Christ applied to His own rejection and vindication. What the sculptor abandoned, God makes central to His work.

THE DEVOTION

The Holy Wounds as places of refuge and encounter: what was dismissed as a defect becomes the site where light breaks through. The part of you that feels broken is exactly where Christ draws near. Through the wounds and rejections of Christ (and your own), God makes a cornerstone; in those dark places, you are called to be light, as part of the bond of faith that spans the Church from Michelangelo to now.
